Rep. George Santos (R-NY), has been caught in a series of lies about his background and has been the subject of investigations and scandals. Santos has lied about his college education, employment history, family heritage, and even the circumstances of his mother’s death. In a recent podcast interview, Santos made further wild allegations, including surviving an “assassination attempt” and being mugged in the middle of Fifth Avenue in New York City.

He claimed that his home was vandalized because he and his husband attended a Republican party, and he was robbed by two white men who stole his shoes, briefcase, and watch in broad daylight. The hosts of the podcast later asked Santos for a police report documenting the mugging but did not receive a response. Santos was also found to have performed as a drag queen in Brazil in 2008, a fact that he initially denied but later admitted to after a photo of him in costume was shared. Despite calls for Santos to resign, he has refused and has been awarded seats on two House committees.
